When there is a disagreement with a physician’s order, a nurse should not be negligent on its medical practice. A nurse should be responsible for making complete inquiry about the accuracy and uncertainty of a physician order, in a patient’s record. For example, in the case of Louisiana of Norton vs. Argonout Insurance Co., the court focused its interest on the responsibility of a nurse to receive further clarification of an apparently erroneous order, from the patient’s physician. The physician order, as entered in the medical record was incomplete and subjected to misinterpretation. However, the nurse did not fully investigate the said order, from the patient’s physician about the uncertainly of the drug. As a result, the patient died from a fatal overdose.
