HWF supports comprehensive programs for people who have intellectual disabilities.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people with disabilities are among the most marginalized groups in the world. People with disabilities have poorer health outcomes, lower education achievements, less economic participation and higher rates of poverty than people without disabilities. Disability is now understood to be a human rights issue. People are disabled by society, not just by their bodies.
Fact 1: Over 1 billion people live with some forms of disability. This corresponds to 15% of the world population between 110-190 individual adults have very significant difficulties in functioning. Rates of disability are increasing, due to population ageing and global increase in chronic health conditions.
